A Safe, Supportive Space to Begin Your Healing Journey
You’ve been surviving for a long time.
But surviving isn’t the same as living.
You give everything at work and still feel like it’s not enough.
You come home exhausted, burnt out, and unsure of who you really are anymore.
From the outside, it might look like you’ve got it together: career, stability, maybe even relationships. You can act, look like, and fake it till you make it for a while.
But inside? You feel trapped and disconnected. Like you’re just going through the motions.
Maybe you numb-out with drugs, alcohol, food, or scrolling for hours on your phone.
Maybe you’re surrounded by people, yet still feel completely alone.
Maybe you’ve already been in therapy for years with lots of coping skills, but you still have emotions you can’t reason away.
You tell yourself you’re fine… but deep down, you know you’re not.
You’re not broken. It’s just getting more difficult to deal with the emotional residue that logic, reasoning, and “coping skills” don’t address.
But you can set the burdens down, create your life any way you want, and let your brain work in its highest potential to solve the unsolvable. I can help.
If old memories, emotions, and unwanted behaviors are showing up when you least expect them,
If you’re tired of pretending everything is fine when it’s clearly not,
If you’re ready for something to finally move or change,
You’re in the right place!
My name is Emily Bachardy, and I am a counselor in Virginia Beach. I creatively help people rapidly break through obstacles which stop them from accessing their authentic selves.
Emily Bachardy, LCSW (she/her)
Therapist in Virginia Beach, VA specializing in Accelerated Resolution Therapy (ART), Trauma and Dissociative Experiences, and Addiction. I also specialize in supporting autistics, ADHDers, and the LGBTQ+ community.
Building Trust Through Gentle, Judgment-Free Listening
Most of my clients have already tried talk therapy in Virginia Beach, VA without long-lasting success. As they sit down in the chair, it’s increasingly difficult to decide where to begin talking about their situation.
Most of my clients have lived in survival mode for so long, they’ve forgotten what it feels like to feel safe, grounded, or real in their day-to-day. They often feel they have a bottomless well of unmet needs, or they may not even be able to see their needs.
My clients often believe they can only be accepted and loved by others if they behave in “desirable” ways or with conditions attached. Therapy usually has conditioned them to be compliant and not autonomous adults, and they’re looking for something different from their therapist.
I specialize in Accelerated Resolution Therapy (ART) for rapid recovery, trauma, childhood abuse and neglect, sexual abuse, dissociative experiences, addiction, depression, anxiety, poor self-image. I also affirm autistics, ADHDers, and the LGBTQ+ community.
In ART sessions, no homework is given or necessary for you to unlock previously hidden insights and solutions. If you’re doing talk therapy with me, I may recommend exercises and practice only if I feel it will support your highest good.
In our work together, I act as a guide, lend my inner resources, suggestions, and intuition to help direct you to the right thing at the right time so you can get where you want to go.
Most clients meet with me weekly to build consistency and feel supported as they move from surviving to actually creating their lives.
Bit by bit, things begin to shift. You start to feel more present. Relationships get healthier. Addiction loosens its grip over your life. You begin to recognize who you really are.
You don’t have to keep holding your breath.

Frequently Asked Questions about Psychotherapy in Virginia Beach, VA
-
A therapist could be a physical therapist, a massage therapist, speech therapist, or something else. I’m a psychotherapist! As for me, I work best with clients who are looking for mental health support.
-
Counseling and psychotherapy are both forms of mental health support, but they differ slightly. Counseling is usually short-term and focused on current issues. Psychotherapy is interested in exploring how past experiences are contributing to your day-to-day experiences. For the sake of this website, the words counseling and psychotherapy are used interchangeably so you understand that I provide compassionate mental health care.
In psychotherapy with me, we take care of the core problem that is driving the problems in your day-to-day life. I am trained in both counseling and psychotherapy, but I mainly work with clients who are willing to explore and take care of their issues at the root.

Treatment generally has four phases: commitment, process, change, and termination.
In the commitment stage, we build a strong, trusting therapeutic relationship and get clear on your goals for psychotherapy. I’m interested in knowing all parts of you, where you’ve been and where you want to be, and what you want out of psychotherapy. I get you excited and feeling encouraged about your therapy journey.
In the process stage, I help to bring awareness to unconscious patterns that may be influencing your behavior and emotions. I start to give you coping skills to manage the day-to-day experience of overwhelming emotions and physical responses associated with trauma. This builds your confidence to step into processing traumatic memories. Getting as much information as possible about what is supportive for you in this stage will help you build confidence for the root-work in the next stage.
In the change stage, we carefully and gradually process traumatic memories, often with the support of Accelerated Resolution Therapy and/or Trauma Model Therapy. The goal is to reduce the emotional intensity associated with the memories and integrate them into a new truth that is manageable for you.At the termination stage, we review your progress made in therapy. Typically by this point, the emotional challenges you have faced are integrated into your overall sense of self and identity. Your relationships are stronger, you have a newfound sense of agency, and we create a plan for you to continue to build on this resilient sense of self even after you end therapy with me. I empower you to navigate future challenges independently as your adult self.

Psychiatrists are able to prescribe medication after diagnosing a patient. Psychotherapists, like me, are not qualified to prescribe medication and treat using a non-medical approach such as traditional talk therapy. I help clients rewrite the past with trauma therapy, and I provide support with other emotional challenges.
